Johnstone Strait

Tekst:

Dan was a logger down Johstone strait
He promised his mother he’d never sail
He could not swim so that’s why he drove
His truck between Sayward and Telegraph Cove

Dan lost his father on an October night
He went out fishing but was caught by the tide
A cold wind was blowing and took him offshore
Dan never saw his father no more

And every October he climbed that road
When the sea’s running heavy he carried his load
Every October he climbed that road

Dan met a girl, she was barely eighteen
June came for the summer to study marine
But she learned about Dan, they had a drink and a laugh
That’s how young June never left Telegraph

On an October night the telephone rang
There was a ship in distress and they needed the men
June cried at the quayside, shouted oh lord
She lost her Dan the minute he went aboard

And every October she climbed that road
When the sea’s running heavy she carried her load
Every October she climbed that road
